Use it

January 6, 2015 By Tate

drake ragingOn a long enough time line during whatever hustle your are getting into to become free from the 9-5 game, you will come across periods of less productivity.  The reason for this could be anything, but one of the biggest things I come across is that I get too comfortable.

What happens if I slack off for a day?  Nothing.  I’m in a pretty comfortable position here that doesn’t force me into action if I don’t feel like it.  I figured out a pretty easy solution to this situation.

Get Angry

Normally my advice would be to avoid getting angry because of all the negative side effects associated with it, but if used correctly it can be a great source of energy.

Recently I was watching a pretty bad movie called Blade Trinity.  There’s one scene in particular that makes the movie worth watching.  While out on patrol, fake Dracula guy comes to Blade’s hideout and kills a bunch of people, one of which is Biel’s friend who was blind or something.  He strings her up after killing her for Biel to find.  After coming back from patrol, Biel finds her and starts crying.  Blade tells her some pretty good advice.

Use your anger to start taking positive action in your own life.

The question is, how do I get angry?  You’re saying to yourself, “Tate, it’s hard to get angry because I feel like a million bucks buddy!”

Fair enough good sir, but could you be doing better?  Time to generate some anger.

Use Social Media

I have pretty much abandoned using Social Media at this point.  It’s an incredible waste of time. Everyone goes on and tries to one up each other on how awesome their life is.

The barometer for posting stuff on Facebook for me was always, who does this serve?  Does your post serve anyone else reading it?  If no, don’t post.  I’d wager that 95% of all posts on Facebook only serve the person posting it.  Next time you go on you social media accounts, check what other people are putting up.  You’ll be alarmed at the complete narcissisim of it all.

The good news here is that you can use it to fuel your anger.  Not just any anger mind you, but a very specific type of anger meant to piss you off into action.

Here’s how it works:

  • Go on any social media account, Facebook and Instagram work best here.
  • Look up one of your ex’s.
  • Find out what they have been up to since breaking up.
  • Remember what went down with your breakup, and get pissed.
  • Work to make your life better.

This method works because even though their life is most likely still as shitty as it was when you knew them, people only post the good parts of their life on social media accounts.  So when you look up their account, it will seem like their life is the tits.  It’s rare that you will have someone post a picture of them working in a cubicle doing extremely tedious bullshit.

I can remember a specific time a year ago that I did this out of the blue one day and discovered this by accident.  That day I spent about 4 hours setting up a personal website that would be used to market a freelance writing business.  4 hours of uninterrupted intense work, just because I got a little angry.

This is such an effective method because most everyone has some ex that burned them somehow.  It doesn’t even have to be an ex boyfriend or girlfriend, it could also be an ex friend or business partner as well.  So even if you are doing awesome now, you can always drum up some shit from the past to make you more productive in the present.

Just remember that the best revenge is living well.  Use that anger fuel to live freaking well as hell.

Drawbacks

The only drawbacks here is if you don’t channel the anger into your work.  This leads you to just getting pissed which is really dumb.  If you are someone who dwells on shit, then maybe this isn’t the best thing for you to do.  However, if you are someone who dwells on shit, maybe you have just never channeled your anger into something positive.

Don’t do this if you feel that you will flip out.  That’s not good for anyone.  We’re just using this as fuel to take action on our work projects, not go mental.  Don’t do that.

Go to work

So you just took my advice and went through my steps.  Great, now you’re angry.  Awesome.

Go do something to make your life better now.

Here’s some ideas:

  • Need money?  Go on Odesk and start freelance writing.
  • Want to create something?  Make a niche site on something you are knowledgeable about.
  • Start an ecommerce site.

Anyway, you get the idea.
